Which airport and terminal
Noi Bai International Airport (HAN) is Hanoi's only major airport, split into Terminal 1 (mostly domestic) and Terminal 2 (international). If you're connecting from a domestic Vietnamese flight to an international one (or vice versa), double-check which terminal each leg uses — a free shuttle bus connects the two, but it adds time you'll want to budget for.
Getting good value on fares
- Fares to Hanoi are generally most competitive outside the Tet (Lunar New Year) period and major regional holidays, when domestic and regional travel spikes.
- Flying into Ho Chi Minh City and out of Hanoi (or vice versa) — an "open-jaw" itinerary — is often barely more expensive than a round trip into the same city, and saves you backtracking if you're covering both cities.
- Regional low-cost carriers connect Hanoi with many Southeast Asian hubs, worth comparing against full-service airlines for shorter regional hops.
